One Hundred and Twenty Nine Paws

Dear Leo,

The. Sun. Has. RETURNED! Cue all that loud music that mama and dada play please because, THIS, is a moment to behold. The sky began to clear part way through our walk this morning and I was overjoyed. We went back outside and played together, and then you went on a, “walk exploration adventure,” with the mama out in the front and down the street. You told me that you were watching construction, looking for cats, and squirrels and all sorts of nature things. I had so much fun with you in the backyard. It felt grand to romp around and be in the sun’s rays! There is nothing quite like soaking up my beloved vitamin D and living my best doggy life with my baby best friend. Thank you nature for bringing back some much needed sunshine our way.
Oh! I almost forgot. You and the mama moved all the big dirt pots back into the sunshine. There are tiny green plants sprouting up from them! Mama was so excited about the plant sprouts. She was teaching you what they were called, how to look at them, and how to touch them. I knew that I probably shouldn’t bump into them if I were to jump over or through the plant box. I love to romp through that empty box because, well, I can, quite frankly! I’ll be extra careful now where I put my paws, because the baby plants are growing and we say hi to them every day. Happy nap time baby.

One Hundred and Twenty Eight Paws

Dear Leo,

One of the Mimi grandma’s visited today. I was so excited about her coming to see us that I ran around the house without getting my paws wiped first. Momma had some feelings about that because I raced around and back and forth over the carpet. You thought I was quite funny, but I had to lay down when mama said, “Stop!” So I stopped and she wiped my paws. Then I calmed down and gave grandma my attention. She needed me to give her loves and I needed some doggy pets.

Next we played fort time, pull things off the shelves, trucks go, “Beep beep beep,” and fit the tiny people into the trucks. I helped you climb up the stairs and we showed the Mimi all the things in the library room. You have wooden trucks, block/balls and big bears from our Auntie Debbie’s collection. Sometimes I just rest my chin on the window sill and I relax watching the cars and people go by. You help me look out the window and say, “Whoooo whoooo,” if a firetruck or ambulance goes by. I love to watch for our mama and dada to come home. I look for their cars or listen for the garage door to make noise. Whenever someone comes home I sound the alarm with barks and running back and forth. Mama and dada were surprised that I started barking after you were born. “I found my voice,” as they say because for the first two years of my life I wouldn’t bark, but merely whine or growl when I was playing. I am usually a pretty quiet doggy, but I do like to let my pack know when someone is around that shouldn’t be!  I need another nap. I love you LDB.

Ready, steady, GO!

One Hundred and Twenty Seven Paws

Dear Buddy,

This morning was a little bit of an early rise kind of day. You and the momma got up at six when the sun hadn’t even come up yet. But, dad got up at 4:30 in the morning to get in his long run. Oh my puppy stars! I was not sure why he would get up so early, but he did. So I got up too, and then I slept on the bed with the momma to make sure she would have good dreams until we were supposed to get up. Sometimes I need to snooze near you and momma to make sure that you both soak up all the good doggy vibes I send out to you.

Here is my take on sleep times: we should all nap and sleep as much as possible because it helps us to have energies to run, play, eat, and then have more fun in general. I love to take naps. For instance, I curled up in your blanket fort today and made myself cozy on all the pillows that the parents had laid out for you. They were pretty cozy and soft. I had not slept in the fort for quite some time. You even came in the fort to snuggle and visit me, I yawned a bunch to show my displeasure in being bothered during nap time, but you still flopped around on me.

Later, when I was sleeping in the fort again, I didn’t even worry about the bananas that you were eating. Surprisingly, I was just needing a nap, so a nap is what I gave myself. You’re napping right now and I think you needed it because you didn’t talk or sing much after the momma put you in the sleeping spot. You just went right to the dream land and that’s where I’ll meet you now baby. I love you,

Momentary pauses between paw movements!

One Hundred and Twenty Six Paws

Dear Leo,

Today I had another one of those unspeakable events transpire, a bath. Momma started it all very inconspiculously. She was going in and out of the bedroom and the bathroom. She brought towels out, moved the curtain, pulled out the cup and all the dog shampoo and leash. Then she said, “Ok Kimmy, come on sweet girl,” and I started shaking because I knew what was about the happen. I was about to get all wet! Sure enough. She helped me down off of her bed, you came in to help me too, and then I was in the bathroom.

I hopped right into the tub like a good doggy dog because I knew that putting off the inevitable was not a good decision. It is best to just bear down and face the facts, a bath was happening whether I liked it or not. I did my best and mama and you told me I did a great job. I got lots of pets, cookies, and doggy attention. I feel clean and shiny now, but I am not about to tell mama that because I don’t want another one of those baths any time soon. Thank you very much! Oh and by the way, when mama reads you the book, “The Pigeon Needs A Bath,” that Pigeon really does have a point. Nap time now, for sure.

One Hundred and Twenty Five Paws

Dear Leo,

There are some days when I just need to curl up and take a nice, long, snooze. Today is one of those days. Mama tried to get me up before your nap so that we could all go upstairs for the nap together. I wasn’t having it though. So I attempted to jump back up onto the couch, she helped me down again. So I gave a really big sigh and romped up the stairs. You tried to catch me, but I was still too quick and I leaped up the stairs.

I know that I help you get to and from places because you need a buddy with you. I understand that now, but when you first started all the crawling and then pulling yourself up business I was quite concerned about where and what you were doing. I still go back to those moments now and then, and that is why I nose you or as mama and dada say, “Goose you,” with my puppy nose to let you know x, y, or z, might not be a great choice. I’m curled up on mama’s side of the bed and enjoying a nice long snooze. I hope to see you in our dream. I was thinking we could play, wait for it, “BALL!” I know how much you love playing with those bouncy objects. Me too baby, me too!

“Wait a minute, let me grab my ring toy!”

One Hundred and Twenty Four Paws

Dear Leo,

The sun is out again today. I think we must have been transported to California! This is the most unusual experience to have two sunshine days in a row in February, the winter, as the mama says. Life just continues to be more and more interesting each day. I enjoy watching the sun glide across the carpet. I move from spot to spot to stay with the sunshine as long as possible. We also took a walk together this morning. Our day started out a little bit earlier than it usually does so we were able to take a walk and this made my doggy day!

You brought another dog along for the ride in your stroller. This dog can’t walk on it’s own, it’s name is Snoopy! Mama says that she really likes Snoopy because it makes her laugh. Snoopy has a lot of enthusiastic energy in the cartoon version. One time I visited mama at her classroom and I saw a lot of the Snoopy in there. I guess I approve of this Snoopy, especially if it is friendly and makes you feel happy. This Snoopy is wearing a green track suit, with rainbow trim, and hold the paws, it is complete with: a zipper. You love to zip the zipper up and down, much like your own coat zipper. I think that is one way that you got so good at using a zipper. I don’t ever use a zipper. I’m not into wearing human clothes. One time mama put these fake paws on me, when we had a lot of, “snow,” and I was not fond of those slipper paws. Not. One. Bit. So, the moral of the story is this: as a dog, we don’t like the human clothes on us, we like the sun, and we like the walks. Thank you and nap nap time for us now!

Action hugs between playing.

One Hundred and Twenty Three Paws

Dear Leo,

Today, the sunshine came out. I got to soak up the sun’s rays and it felt really great. I missed laying in the sunshine and napping. When I feel all warm and cozy I drift off to sleep that much quicker. I definitely enjoyed what came along this day, because, as I have discussed with you before, the sunshine is not a definite thing in this Oregon weather. You moved a bunch of garden soil around with what the mama calls a trowel. You’re really good at scooping and flinging the dirt into the air.

Sometimes, if I get too close to you when you’re in what I will call, “dig and fling,” mode, than I will have some dirt land on my nose or my ears. When that happens I shake my head around and romp about a little bit. That usually takes care of the problem, but you never can tell because later on mama or dada will wipe down my legs, paws, fur and rub all the dirt away with a towel. Occasionally you try to give them a hand with this, but I will walk away when you do that because I know it will turn into a, “Pull Kimmy’s legs,” game and I’m not into that business baby. Anyway, I have digressed. There’s a good word for your vocabulary bank. It means: to have gone off topic. I love you baby.

Cheese with the buddy. ❤

One Hundred and Twenty Two Paws

Dear Leo,

Do you know what my favorite thing about the weekend is? Our walk with dada and all our family time. I love when the whole pack is together. Do you know what the word pack means to a doggy? Well, in short it is the group to which a dog belongs. Our family is my pack, or I should say our pack. I feel my most content when we are all together in our home. I like to be near the momma, dada, and you.

So, for instance, when you nap, sometimes I will choose the landing on the stairs to sleep at, or on the momma and dada bed because it’s half way between you and them. Mostly I just truly enjoy my time with us playing, reading the books, exploring the outside and having good doggy times together.

Although, each weekend morning the mama goes somewhere or sometimes upstairs for a while and you and I try to get back to her. I know that you like us all to be togethers too, because you say, “Mamaaaaaaaaa,” and then I go on the hunt to find her with my nose. Then the dada goes and does the run thing outside and we say, “Bye-bye.” Often times, the dada is gone for a long, long time because he’s like a wolf dog and does a lot of miles like a wild doggy does when they are in search of new territories. I like to be a home body doggy. Don’t get me wrong, our walks, and explorations outside are one of my favorites, but I like to be with the pack as I said. Alrighty, I think that’s enough of a doggy dog lesson for now baby. I love you.

I smooshed myself into a spot on the couch between the cushion and the mama. I feel more content with life this way.

One Hundred and Twenty One Paws

Dear Leo,

Last night I helped dada with the night time stories in your room. I was a stealthy curled up sleeping doggy. I have a special corner of your room that I like to settle into, or sometimes I like to squeeze myself between the rocking chair and the big blue cushion chair. Either spot is perfectly fine for my doggy self. I listen to the stories, the songs, and then I usually leave the room but nobody told me to leave, so I stayed.

Then, later, dada was looking for me. He looked in all of the bedrooms, in all of my special spots, and then he said to mama, “Do you know where Kimmy is?” I could hear them puttering around, and whisper calling my name like, “Kiiiiiiiiiiiiimyyyyyy.” But, all the while I stayed curled up in my spot in your room because you see, I was on sleep duty. I guess they didn’t realize that if I was in your room for the night time sleeps, than it was my job to make sure you had good dreams and so I thought it was time to go night-night together. When we do that, I know that you’ll have good dreamies with me about balls, and grass, and bananas, and play time.

Mama finally came in, and I looked up with big eyes as if to say, “Yessss mama, what is it?” She came in and gave me a pet and helped me get up and leave your bedroom. I did not understand why I had to leave considering the fact that I had just begun to drift off to sleep. Big humans, they just don’t understand our needs lil’ guy. I love you. I hope you’re having a good nap now. All this talk of sleeping is making me extra tired. See you soon,

Checking my left side here folks.

One Hundred and Twenty Paws

Dear Leo,

You are one funny baby. This morning you enjoyed playing around, digging, and scooping muddy water and just plain mud all around the yard. Then you came up with this game to throw the bouncy green ball into the muddy water again and again to see how hard it would bounce. You seemed to enjoy that for the most part. I was not so sure what you were doing, so I decided to investigate. I jumped back when I realized it had to do with water because I did not want to get all wet.

I love to play, in the mud too, but not in the muddy water necessarily. Sometimes a dog just doesn’t want to get wet ok? I love that you have this extra layer of fur on when we go outside in the rain. Mama calls it your froggy suit. You look like a giant froggy because there are silly googl-y eyes on the top of your baby hood and it snaps up the front with a zipper too. You stay nice and dry. I don’t know if you realize this though, I am not nice and dry and so that’s why I steer clear of the mud hole in the yard. I always race around it! I’m super fast at this, sometimes I even launch myself over it.

I love you baby,
