Seventy Two Paws

Dear LDB,

Well, it’s been a day since I wrote to you. Momma had to go to the place that smells like glue and little people. Grammie was here with us, while I took care of you. She did a great job following my lead, because I know our routine so well. Occasionally the humans think I need help taking care of you, while I think is silly, but I let them do their thing.

One of my favorite activities to do in the house is run around and get you all jazzed up so that you’ll run around with me too. We did that when Momma came home. It was so much fun. But then, I was banished outside in the cold sunshine for a little bit because I wouldn’t “calm down.” Parents. Seriously, they always think they know best. The saying goes, “Doggy knows best,” you’d think they would know that by now. I love you buddy.

Seventy One Paws

Dear Leo,

I’ve fallen back asleep while I write this to you, via our momma. She got up super early this morning and had the nerve to turn on the lamps in my sleeping space. I gave her the stink eye but I couldn’t hold it for too long because she gave me good morning kisses and I love the attentions I get, so I just gave a really loud sigh and relaxed back into sleep. You had some things to say in your dream too. We both like to sleep with our heads smooshed into the cushions while laying on our bellies.

Yesterday you were going through some feelings and kept trying to hold onto my paws or my tail. The big humans put a stop to that, but we still played. I don’t mind so much because I know that I am super strong and can just move from one side to the other and you’ll flop down onto your tushie. Not that I want you to flop, but just that, it’s an option if need be. Most of the time you act surprised when I do this, which I think is kind of funny because I always do that, once I’ve had enough of your shenanigans that is. You’re a silly baby. I love you,

“I’m not amused mama.”

Seventy Paws

Dear Leo,

“It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood, won’t you be mine? Won’t you be my neighbor?” I heard that song playing the other day when momma was clipping your paws. I like that song a lot. It’s soothing to my ears. Sometimes mama sings it for us too. I like when we have the music played for us.

Today we were really busy all morning. You did the usual routine, and then momma brought out the giant hose, vacuum, and all the gadgets. I tried to hide for a bit because the sound and the sucking vacuum worries me a lot. I don’t like how loud it is for us. You were really brave today. You helped momma turn it on, push it all around, and step over the giant hose. You didn’t cry once, and you kept doing all the vacuum thing for a long, long time, or at least it felt like a long time to me. I decided to move rooms when you guys found my quiet spot with the vacuum. Then we got to the fun stuff and played, took a walk, and then you rode on your trike bike. We love the sunshine times we have together. You did a lot of scooping, and climbing around outside. I supervised and helped keep things in order for you. You saw a ladybug and spiders. Yay bugs!

I love you bebe,

Dear Leo,

Today you came home and smelled really funny like water, momma’s hands, and something like cleaning stuffs. You were trilling your lips and trying to get me to do it too. Momma called it, “Blowing bubbles,” and I think we need to get something straight baby. I don’t opt to go into the water unless required. I will leave the breathing of air and blowing of bubbles to you my friend. I will continue to drink all of your bath water and clean you with my tongue. I think that’s the most helpful thing I can do in this situation. I appreciate how you always want to teach me new things. You’re the most share-ingest person I know. You’re my puppy brother!

I love you,

“Lookin’ at life out the window.”

Sixty Eight Paws

Dear Leo,

Today it was sunny, cold, and clear out. We had a big investigation time in our back yard. I love to follow you around, get the sniffs in, and check everything out for you. Sometimes we find something super exciting like a slug, spider web, spider, buried treasure, or something dirty you say, “Eww,” about and then giggle while brushing your hands off on one another.

My favorite is when we run around the yard and pretend we’re trucks and go really fast! I like to feel the breeze in my ears and so they fly out straight across the sky and momma and dada call it, “Bat dog ears!” Sometimes we stop and check out something you find along the edge of our yard, but mostly we poke around and look for things we can see. I love you buddy. Thank you for showing and teaching me things.

Dear LDB,

Today you came back from a solo adventure with the mama. You smelled funny. You smelled like a bath and something else. I was quite concerned about the backs of your ears smelling correct, so I took some time to give you kisses there and make sure you smelled like my baby after I cleaned you right up.

We shared some banana too, well, honestly mama gave me some banana bites while you were searching the peek-a-boo window for the garbage trucks. We saw the garbage trucks earlier this morning, so I’m not sure why you were searching again, but you know, as the humans say, “No harm, no fowl.” I like to look out the window too, and besides which, I got some ‘nana while you were busy so it worked out quite well for this doggy! I hope you’re enjoying our dream as much as me, I was getting some smells and running for a moment, and now I’ve settled into the dream land with you. I love you baby,

“What do you wanna do Kimmy?”

Sixty Six Paws

Dear Leo,

Today is a rather gray and foggy day. I think this was the first time you’ve been in foggy weather and realized what it is. Well, one thing is for sure when it’s foggy, not a lot of other doggies go out for walks with their babies. We went on a walk together though. I love our morning walk times together. You point out which way we should go, I check for smell currents, and we all talk about the birds, cats, and squirrels that run by us. Sometimes we stop and momma takes pictures of the nature things. Like today, we took a picture of this drippy spider web. You and momma were quite happy about that web, I didn’t understand what was so exciting about it though because there were definite dog remains and smells down below the web. I guess that is what makes for a great time, because I can smell down south and you do all the pointing up north. A perfect combo!

You went to the place with all the books and bubbles this morning. You came back and told me all about the adventures that you had. I loved hearing about your friends, the story book, and smelling your head for the bubble remains. Keep learning baby, you share with me and I appreciate the knowledge. I love you!

“Onward Kim-Kim!”

Sixty Five Paws

Dear Leo,

Today you and momma were quite busy doing things in the dirt outside. It reminded me of the summer time when you would dig, dig, dig in the ground with the thing momma calls a trowel. You helped put dirt from the giant bag into the pots, there were a lot of pots. There were so many and you guys filled them with dirt and these tiny plants that you had to go get more of, from the side of the house where we’re not supposed to play by ourselves.

You loved being the helper baby. You walked the pots to the porch, I sniffed them, and then I checked the dirt as you put it into the pot. We’re hoping that the na-ni-na’s don’t dig up the plants, but you never know. Squirrels are quite a nuisance in our neck of the woods. I like to run out unexpectedly to try and startle them and then they race around our fence, aka the highway for squirrels. You love to laugh, point, and giggle at me when I do this. It’s a favorite past time for all of us. Sometimes I like to try to make you laugh and so I start to race around the yard over and over again. I’m pretty good at racing around you, but every now and then I’ll slightly bump you with my bum and you have to regain your balance. Momma and dada are always there to help you though. I love you lil guy. Let’s have more fun after naps! xo, Kimmy

Sweet dreams, sweet puppy.

Sixty Four Paws

Dear Leo,

Today we took our walk later in the morning, but guess what I loved about that? It was SUPER SUNNY! I felt like I was in California for a moment and even panted a little bit. Best. Feeling. Ever! I miss the sunshine when it rains here in the P.N.W. Momma says that’s what makes it so beautiful and green, but I like the sun better than the rain. There’s nothing sunshine-y about it when it’s liquid people! Humans can’t always be trusted, especially when it comes to weather. Often times they have ulterior motives little one. Remember that.

The big humans know things they don’t always share. Like last night, you and I had a babysitter with the Auntie. We love our Auntie, but, we were not warned, excuse me, I was not warned that I would have to babysit a new human in the house. If I had been warned, I might have asked them to send over my cousin Daisy so that we could play while we babysat the humans. Humph. I pouted for a few moments, and then jumped around with excitement because I love Auntie a lot. Ok, I need to nap fully now, momma is interrupting me with her typing. I love you baby.

Puppy love.

Sixty Three Paws

Dear Leo,

It was a sunny, windy, and cold start to our day. I loved running around in the backyard with you. You saw frost on your slide today and wondered what it was. You kept poking it with your finger and saying, Mamma!” We all investigated it, momma talked about the temperature, but all I know is that it was COLD and I was ready to go inside and be warm.

There are so many details to things that humans explain, and I don’t always want to wait and listen, I like to, “do,” instead. So, “do,” we did! I took us all on a walk. We walked past the kids in the 5th grade class that practice their two wheel skills and block my path. Momma said hi to one of them because she knew them from her school. A lot of the kids said that I was really cute, I liked that. My ears were especially expressive during our walk because it was windy so they fly up into the air and momma and dada call it, “Bat dog ears!” I’m not really sure what a bat is, but I know that it is something silly because then they always laugh. Humans, they crack themselves up!

I love you baby,
