Two Hundred and Eighteen Paws

Dear Leo,

Today you played in this outdoor bathtub contraption. I did not attend the shenanigans out in the front yard. It was quite hot and my doggy paws and fur weren’t interested in the splashing circumstances. I watched you from the house and checked on my humans as you came into the house. You seemed quite pleased with yourself and the water. You did, “dives,” and would plop into the water and hold your head up whilst kicking furiously. Mama and dada got covered in water and laughed.

The tiny baby human sat in a buzzing chair and kicked his feet happily. Earlier in the day we went on a walk just the three of us, you, dada, and I. I loved the feeling of the sun beating down on my fur. You told me I was shiny and that I was a good dog. Right now I’m laying down next to mama because I need to always be her shadow if she is home. I’m her doggy, well I’m everyone’s doggy in this house, but she’s my person. She needs me, especially if the baby cries. I like to give him kisses and help mama with the boobie juicing business.

On another paw, but related, our beloved Bella cat sister, who passed over the rainbow a couple of years ago, she told me that I was responsible for taking care of everyone once she was gone. So that means I have taken on, ‘latch duties,’ and that I take care of the nursing, the caring, and the carrying. I think you’re waking up from your night time sleep because you are talking now. Mama is typing faster as I send her this message, because she wants to finish up. I’ll sign off on this one for now. I love you buddy.

Two Hundred and Seventeen Paws

Dear Irving,

This evening we saw something special out of our back window. Mama called it a, “hummingbird,” I call them: flying creatures. I’m not quite sure what was so special about the bird, but mama seemed riveted to the window and even filmed with her tiny rectangle for a while. I started my snooze fest and we watched you kick your legs and do your baby cooing/talking thing that you love to do.

One thing I appreciate about mama is when she stops and gets interested in nature. Even though the bird aka the flying creature was not truly inspiring to me, as a four legged mammal, I love to be outside and be in nature, so it made me happy to see her excitement.

When we are all outside together I love to watch, sniff, explore, and then snooze. When you sleep in the sunshine outside, it helps to heal any of the previous problems of the day. My favorite patch of grass and clover provides a welcome comfort when I am ready for a rest. Your brother likes to lay down next to me on the grass. I wonder if you will do the same when you’re a bigger human? Right now you make some really great faces when I give you kisses. I like to taste your head and ears, so that’s what I aim for, but every once in a while when you’re close to my ground level, I get a little one on one time with you. We’re going to be best buddies, just like Leo and I are, I can feel it in my paws. But I do know that you will be your own person and or personality and I have no idea who that will be, but I am excited to find out!

Two Hundred and Sixteen Paws

Dear Leo and Irving,

This morning we took our usual walk around the neighborhood and added the extra square in. I love taking you both on walks. It’s one of my favorite past times. Then we all took naps in synchronization mode. Mama has Irving resting on her leg right now and I think it might be falling asleep because she keeps squeezing her toes and moving her leg, but you know, a mama’s gotta do what a mama’s gotta do.

I am listening from my bed and I perk my ears up and open my eyes whenever noise comes from dada or you. I forgot to mention my favorite moment from the morning time. We were all on the floor together! Here’s how it happened: I laid down to rest during the making and the baking of the bread you guys were doing. Irving was hanging out in the chair thing that vibrates, and I supervised him with the momma and dada. Then mama pulled out the baby mat, and you both laid on it. Mama read books to us all and we were off in, “Elephant and Piggie land!” I still don’t quite understand how an elephant and piggy are best friends, but they are and you love both of those characters dearly. Irving seemed mildly interested in the story. He was intrigued by your hand holding and what was happening up above him. I loved watching you three and having you close by on the carpet with me. Have a nice nap buddy and little buddy.

Two Hundred and Fifteen Paws

Dear Kimmy,

The sun is out! Whenever it is a rainy day I say, “Sun, out, no rain!” Sometimes mama or dada sing this song, “The sun’ll come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there’ll be sun!” I like to tell them, “No mama, no dada, no ya-ya-ya aka la la la,” even though I secretly like when they sing for or to me. Sometimes you just have to assert your feelings when you’re a smaller human such as myself. I wanted to say thank you to you Himmy aka Kimmy. I love you. Thank you for trying to make me feel better when I was having a hard time with my feelings before my nap time today. You were really sweet and tried sitting by mama and giving me kisses. I gave you pets and hugs too, but I was still having big feelings about things and I just had a hard time with it all, so much so that it upsets your doggy ears. I hope your ears feel better now that you had sleep time. It can be hard when you’re little and you try to express yourself, especially when you’re tired. That’s what our mama says. I agreed, even though I didn’t say yes. So. I love you Kimmy, thanks for always understanding me and being so kind when I have big feelings come over my body. I loved your kisses when I was trying to take deep breaths. Thanks for those, even though I said, “NO!”

Two Hundred and Fourteen Paws

Dear Leo,

Hi buddy! Today is the start of a new day. I can feel the winds of change coming, especially this last weekend. There was so much wind, and shifting in the atmosphere. I would put my nose up to the sky and sniff. You did this with me for a little bit too. It helps to breathe in and out and think about what’s ahead of us in our puppy day together.

We had an extra long, or double walk with the dada this morning. Mama went to the, “boop, boop, boop,” doctor and we waited for her to come home. You said, “Mama, no, mama stay,” this morning. I just sat by your side and agreed quietly. I know that the mama has to go sometimes and the dada too. I’m used to the coming and going. You’re not so used to those things quite yet, but you seem to really understand and ask questions more about it now. You’re growing up so fast lil’ dude. Keep playing and being curious with me. I love you!

Tongues out, slobber happiness.

Two Hundred and Thirteen Paws

Dear Kimmy,

This morning was quite exciting! I had fun running around the patio telling you to go, “Pee, poop, Kimmy!” After that we got to go book shopping in our family library. You raced upstairs and I crawled after you super fast. Then we looked at books, lots of books, and I got to choose new ones to put into my basket for downstairs. You were super jazzed up and raced from one room to the other and I tried to race after you.

Sometimes I get a little bit overwhelmed and I scream and laugh really loudly while running back to mama or dada. I know that you are playing with me, and would not pounce on me, but I get so overwhelmed that I can’t think straight. That’s why I scream and yell, “No Kimmy,” and I run back over to our big humans. You make me laugh, and feel warm fuzzies inside my heart. Thank you for being my pal Kimmy! Let’s play spikey turtle ball this afternoon! I like that game a lot. I’ll throw it for you and you can run and get it, ok?  See you in our dream soon Kimmy,

Two Hundred and Twelve Paws

Dear Leo,

Hi lil’ dude. Today is one of my sleepy feeling days I can just tell it is, by sniffing in the air. I feel the rain coming, it hasn’t started yet, but I think it will soon. Perhaps as we are napping the rain will come down?

Early this morning there were thunder claps! It woke me up a little bit, but not enough to make me get out of my comfortable chair and blanket. I got up when dada let me outside and we did my breakfast routine. I like to be awake and fully ready for getting you and mama up. Sometimes mama gets up before you, and sometimes you like to climb onto the bed and wake mama up.

I like to cuddle on the bed with mama, especially around her feet and legs. I help her drift off to dream lands and then we all have a dream adventure together. Mama and dada read this book to you about dream animals. I think one of your dream animals is a cat, like Bella cat. You say, “Night night,” to her special paw prints every night. You love her, and I loved her a lot. She was my first kitty cat friend. I used to enjoy curling up next to her and snuggling for a nap together. Then when she would wake up, I would lick her ears and nuzzle underneath her chin. She loved all the puppy dog attentions I gave to her. She trained me to be a gentle doggy friend, and now whenever I see a cat, I’m excited, but I give them their space. There’s no other cat quite like Bella cat, which you and I know best. Night night buddy.

Two Hundred and Eleven Paws

Dear Leo,

Why don’t you wanna share the peanut butter spoon anymore? Each morning the mama makes the smoothie and you help with the scoops and the pours and the smells. I thought we had a deal made? You get one spoon, I get the other spoon, and then when you’re done with your spoonful, I get to help clean it off thoroughly for you. After that you toss it into the sink and it makes a big big clattering sound! At least, this was our routine for quite some time, and then for some reason you decided that you weren’t interested in the sharing portion of things anymore. Maybe this comes with human puppy dog age of two years and two months old?

Either way, here’s my advice to you lil’ dude: You catch more flies with honey. Meaning, the nicer you are, the more you’ll receive in life. So, what that means to me in this particular instance is this: share the peanut butter spoon with me kid, ok? I’d appreciate it, and then I’ll throw you a bone of chase every now and then.

Love,

Kimmy

Wind in my face, sand on my paws, lovin’ the moment in life.

Two Hundred and Ten Paws

Dear Leo,

It’s one of those mornings and days where the sun is super shiny in the sky, the breeze is blowing, and there’s a lot of good smells in the air. I had a grand time on our walk this morning. I was wagging my tail and enjoying our time as a family. I did pull dada slightly throughout the neighborhood, but that was only because I felt like I needed to lead the way especially with another puppy in momma’s belly and my keen leadership skills.

Sometimes it’s hard to be the leader of the pack, but I mostly rise to the occasion. There was a giant truck that visited our street during our morning play time. You ran out to the front yard with the momma and dada to supervise their trailer drop off. I was hanging out inside because it was a little bit warm for me and you were intent on chasing me with the red recycle bin, which I wasn’t having any of this morning. In your defense we did have a super fun time with the ball throwing and the broken ring toss game you made up. I chased them for you and romped around quite a bit, but then it was time for a doggy rest. I gotta get those rests in whenever I can, I conserve my energies especially on the hot doggy days.

I love you buddy!

Two Hundred and Nine Paws

Dear Kimmy aka Himmy,

Hi best doggy friend! You had a busy morning with me! You, mama, dada, and I went on a walk with our stroller. You had a great time and kept wagging your tail. Mama said, “Kimmy are you happy? Are you loving the sunshine too?” I think you were! I brought along mama’s old stuffed animal dog, she calls it puppy. I call her, “Chibi!” She’s my puppy doggy stuffy now, but mama shows her some love when I bring her over to her for hugs and kisses each day.

After our walk or “wa-p,” we had some fun at home. We painted with glitter paint, set it all up, took it all down, mowed both lawns, snacked, played, and then romped about while you got ready for a bath with the dada. You were really calm and followed directions in the bath tub. Mama gave you treats and I did too. You seemed really happy to get some small crunchy treats. I stood guard for you like you do for me. I take my baths at night-night time.

After your bath you were the funniest doggy! You dove right into your bed, shook off, and plopped. Then you plopped again onto the couch and you haven’t moved, except to change sleeping positions. I think the walk, the wags, and the bath took it out of you. I’m snoozing too, but sending mama my entry telepathically, I learned that new word recently. I love you buddy of mine.

xo, Leo
