One Hundred and Ninety Eight Paws

Dear Kimmy,

I pronounce your name, or at least the first letter that is, instead of with a, “K,” sound, with an, “H” sound. Himmy is more of how it comes out. You like that I can say your name now, but you also like to try and ignore me, but mama and dada don’t blame you. You have three people telling you what to do all the time, that’s a lot of human directions for one doggy.

Today mama went to the, “Beep beep, beep,” doctor and so dada, you and I went on a super long morning walk with no rain! We saw a new digger-excavator at the house that is being built, many squirrels, and some doggy friends. I looked for a baby digger down the bigger main road but there wasn’t one there today. Sometimes there’s two diggers which is pretty cool to investigate. You seem to be into the ground smells whenever we stop to look at the trucks, but I know that you’re with me and leading the way.

Then, dada and I went on a long run! I took a red dog stuffed animal with me. He’s fluffy and our cat sister used to play with him. Dada and mama say that red dog was a part of Bella’s pride. I like red dog, and all of her other toys. I moved them off of the special glass mirror with her paw prints and arranged them on the window sill so that they could get some sunshine and fresh air. I think they like it there a lot. Red dog loved our outside adventure. I like to include as many stuffy friends as I can on our adventures so that they can see the world too! I teach them out to look at flowers, clouds, bushes, and how to “boop,” leaves. I’m going to nap now. I love you Kimmy aka Himmy.

Wait, don’t move, I see something in the grass!

One Hundred and Ninety Seven Paws

Dear Leo,

Both yesterday and today I was so excited to be outside that I smiled as we ran around together. It brings me a lot of joy to play out in the sunshine with you. We ran and ran and ran around and then we weeded the flower bed with mama. After that you adventured with mama up the road with your bicycle for a ride. At the end of the road you saw our Uncle Tom. I could smell him when he came in the garage to help dada build the giant shelf on the ceiling. It was hard for me not to run outside and visit with him, but I tried to be calm and wait in the house. He’s one of my favorite humans you see.

When you came around and were born, Mama and Dada had me stay with Uncle Tom and Auntie Allison and their girls. They have my best friend Daisy dog at their house. They all smell a little bit of Daisy so it makes me feel happy inside to smell her. She’s a good friend. When I was a small puppy I loved to jump on her, chew on her ears, and rough-house with her all day long. I didn’t know how to stop and take a rest until I was so exhausted that I would just lay down wherever I flopped. She put up with my shenanigans for a long time, and then one day after a visit to the vet I didn’t feel like being as crazy playful as I had been. Don’t get me wrong I still love to play and romp around, but it comes and goes with the action of the day. You and I are both napping because our morning was super busy. I love you buddy!

Time to slide, and some side eye business.

One Hundred and Ninety Six Paws

Dear Leo,

Today I feel extra happy. I think the peanut butter snacks with hidden medicine that mama and dada gave me are helping. I know that I went to the vet for a reason and I think the humans helped me. It could also be all the vitamin D I am getting right now. That’s not too bad either. I love the SUNSHINE! When we went on our morning romp/walk we had so much sunshine and you said, “YAY,” when you could feel the breeze on your face and watch the wind blowing through the tree branches.

I received so many smell currents, on our walk, that I had to stop a few times to take them all in. They filled up my nose cavities and I got overwhelmed! When we got home we went out back and had a ball running session around the yard. I got super jazzed up and I had to spring free!  I think my racing run scared you a little bit. Sometimes I feel like a cannon ball that goes shooting out and just has to keep it up until my muscles slow me down. It’s the best feeling to shoot around the yard and feel free! You race really well too now lil’ dude. Your legs carry you while you run and you’re learning how to hop. I’m not into hopping unless it is into a certain spot. Then I use both my front legs together and next my back legs together in order to move to where I want to go. Life’s just better in the sunshine and summer time! Can we agree to that? I love you little brother.

One Hundred and Ninety Five Paws

Dear Leo,

Hello brother! It’s a sunny/cloudy/rainy/sunny/partially cloudy kind of day in our neighborhood. I love it when the sun takes the rain away. We romped about in the back yard quite a bit before we had the banana time. I try to keep close to you to make sure you’re safe and enjoying your time but mainly being safe.

Sometimes I’ll nose boop your project to check and see what exactly it is that you’re working on. This can be an epic dog fail, especially if it involves dirt, because you see, dirt will then be placed upon my head or body in a gleeful manner. I don’t mind the dirt so much, as I do the brushing that takes place afterwards. I’m not always so sure about what is happening when I get a brush down from the mom or dada. Right now I am laying on their bed and watching mama type my words out.

I had an epic afternoon adventure at the place that shall not be named, shhhh, ok, lean in, you ready? THE VET! Dada took me there and I was super concerned about why mama and you were not with us, but I didn’t make a big fuss. I knew I was safe and that you loved me. So I sat and relaxed on the seat while we took our adventure time in the car. Dada said I did a really good job going into the vet and they were actually very nice to me. No one stuck anything into my bottom and I listened when they lead me into the, “check if you’re sick doggy,” space. I have a skin allergy and it comes out when the weathers change. Sometimes when I am stressed it becomes a little bit worse. We’re at that stage now, so the big humans decided it was time I see my vet. The best part of the experience was getting to run back into the house to you and mama. I checked all the smells of me and then laid down in a corner to watch you. I’m pretty exhausted and sleepy. I think I will go and nap. Love you lil’ buddy,

Hydration station, yard time.

One Hundred and Ninety Four Paws

Dear Leo,

Hi buddy! We had a terrific sunshine walk this morning. You saw an excavator at the place where they’re building another house for humans. They are building the house super duper fast, they’re on the second level already! Your favorite thing to do when we see a digger truck is to show the stuffed animal friend you brought with you and make all the truck sounds that you can think of.

Next up we took a walk down cat row. It’s a street where there are a lot of kitty cats who roam around and sleep underneath cars. We stop and point to the cats that we see as we are walking. There are four cats at one house! Sometimes the cats make eye contact with me, sometimes they don’t… it all depends on their moods. Cats can be smug little creatures who rule the roost. I loved our cat, Bella, she was the best cat friend I could have asked for. We would cuddle, nose boop, and keep each other company when the humans were gone. She’s been gone for a year now. I still miss her to this day. I go into the extra bedroom and lie on the floor like I used to when she was around. I have little conversations with her and tell her what is happening. I think she’s still able to hear me. Alright, I gotta nap li’ dude, we have a whole afternoon ahead of us.

Standing guard for my brothers.

One Hundred and Ninety Three Paws

Dear Kimmy,

I’m back today with another entry for you because something really big happened yesterday: dada went on the longest run of his life! He ran for 40 miles in the sunshine and rains from 5:30 in the morning until 2:30 in the afternoon!

We got to see dada when he would come home in between each ten mile loop. I would run to the front door after you and holler, “DADA!” You’d back the situation up with tail wags and running around the family room. It was a super exciting morning and afternoon. Mama took you and I in the car on an adventure mid-morning. We got to listen to this song about, “The eye of the tiger,” and I rang this metal bell thing when we saw dada on the road. I rang it really loud the second time we cheered him on.

You sat calmly and watched out the window. I know that you understood that we were cheering dada on, but I think you were a little bit concerned about why he wasn’t in the car with us. We always travel together these days as a family. I like that because then you’re always with me! After we woke up from our nap we got to see family outside, I road my bike on the grass and the driveway and we saw dada cross a toilet paper finish line. It was super exciting! I wasn’t sure why there were so many family members there but, guess what? I can say all of their names now! I was happy to see them and be on my bike! I took my bike off roading in the bark by the wetland and then we played more in the house. Dada had to do some sitting so I cuddled him and we played as a family. I love you Kimmy-Kim. Have a nice nap,

Gotta nap when I can, wherever I can!

One Hundred and Ninety Two Paws

Dear Kimmy,

HELLO FRIEND! I have now fully mastered how to say your name, KIMMYYYYYY, sometimes mama and dada say that it sounds like I am saying, “Himmy,” but I do my best with how to say things because words are new and challenging at times. You seem to really enjoy when I say your name too. I can call you from outside, downstairs, my bedroom, anymore in our domain and you come to me. I love that about you doggy. You’re the most faithful and patient creature.

Sometimes I get bumped when I am following you, or trying to hold onto you and walk at the same time, but I know that you’re a big full grown dog. You’re triple my weight and then some. You’re a muscle healthy doggy! I think I like dogs and understand them so well because I have you in my life. I don’t go up to other doggies because I know that they’re not my buddy, but I will woof from afar and point to them. Momma and dada have taught me that you can say hi to a doggy, but you don’t touch them unless the human says it’s ok because you don’t know what to expect with other doggies. Thank you for teaching me about doggy life, and loyalty. I love you buddy,

Field day!

One Hundred and Ninety One Paws

Dear Leo,

Today, the rain returned. I am not sure why it has to rain so much here in Oregon. I know I’ve said this before, but it’s the truth, it makes me feel a little bit glum inside when it rains all day long. I got outside and do my business and get some “liquid sunshine,” but truth be told it is not the same. We did make the most of the day and had a great time cuddle playing, tossing balls down the hallway, painting, playing cars, and having a stuffed animal party on the floor.

I spent some time upstairs for a bit and on the landing of the staircase so that I could relax without being bombarded with wheeled objects or be buried with stuffies. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate all the time we have together because, you’re my little person, but I don’t mind getting to relax every now and then. A dog needs her R&R you know. Did you like that acronym? I picked it up from momma and dada. I’m a clever one, sometimes, a little bit, “ho-hum,” but clever none the less. Love you buddy.

Side long glances between eye squints.

One Hundred and Ninety One Paws

Dear Leo,

Today we made a special discovery in the back yard. Well, mama made the discovery. She found: the glow in the dark ball! Now, this ball has a special story that goes along with it, you see. This ball appeared in our yard one day. We washed it off with the hose and it’s been my bouncy ball ever since then. I love it! It can bounce really high up into the air, which is amazing, but that is also part of the problem, in regards to why it got lost in the first place. You have decided that you are the, “keeper of the balls,” and outdoor toys. I let you think you’re in charge. Us dogs know how to play along with humans, so that as our companions, you feel more in control of life.

Here’s the deal though little dude: When you’re not looking, I snatch the ball, run around wagging my tail happily, and settle in for some much needed chewing and basking in the sunshine. It’s an essential part of my life, chewing and playing is as much a part of essential life as eating and other business. Well, that’s all I have for now, I hope that you’re napping well. I love you buddy.

Considering the next route.

One Hundred and Ninety Paws

Dear Leo,

Hey lil’ dude. It’s been a long doggy day so far. We woke up early. I could hear you moving around in your bed, but I stayed in my bed until the mama said, “Kimmy!” I was hoping that we were all going to go back to sleeps, but alas, we got up. I loved giving you a nose sniff and boop in your bed before you got up. Thanks for helping feed me this morning. I like it when you shake my food in the bowl and pick it up when it falls all over the floor. You’re a funny puppy dog boy like that.

We had a nice long walk with our humans and then a romp around the yard for a bit. You were investigating the remaining tulip flowers and put some other flower petals inside of a tulip. So I decided to nose boop the flowers. Some of the petals started coming off. I think that means that the flower is at the end of its life.

Anyway, we got to the part of the morning I didn’t like very much. You all gave me another wet bath deal. I do not understand why I have to have these baths every few days, but dada said it’s because my skin is upset and flaky. So, I wouldn’t tell mama or dada this, but I think the bath helped me not feel so itchy anymore. I liked how I felt after the bath, but I was kind of worried during the process because I’m not interested in being wet, even with cookies helping me through it. I love you buddy.
