Four Hundred and Five Paws

Dear Little Brothers,

Hi, I’m back, it’s Kimmy. I’m taking a nap on the couch bed right now. I did a lot of work this morning. Mama decided to do the unsoundly and unsightly thing: vacuum. I loathe the vacuum little dudes. So, she helps me out by sending me to the upstairs/landing area and then I am free to roam around in peace upstairs and relax. I generally plop myself down on my comfy landing bed space and watch from above what’s happening in the realm of downstairs land.

Vacuuming is the strangest of all strange encounters that humans do. Why is it that they insist upon sucking up all of my hair, and fantastic dirt that is tracked into the house? I find it all bizarre. It reminds me of when we had my best-est cat friend Bella. She used to do her business in a sand box in the spare bathroom. Why would she do that? Why not just use the thing that flushes or better yet, go out back and take care of all of that? So I of course would go and remind her each time she did her business to take it outside. She didn’t seem to understand why I would check her business out.

All in all, I ended up getting my nose tapped a time or two by her, no claws, just paws, but still, shameful all the same. I guess I should have known by around the fourth time that I should keep my nose in my own business. Woah! I just realized something, that’s what mama says to us, LDB. Oh my goodness, I just made the connection. Ha!

Kimmy

Four Hundred and Four Paws

Dear Paw-Brothers,

Kimmy here, reporting for daily duties. Lately, we’ve all been enjoying the out of doors times. The big humans have been mowing the lawn more, pulling up the prickly bush plants, and plucking the weeds. I didn’t know that our garden would grow so quickly! We have a plant called bok-choy, and another one called radishes that are growing really well. Who knew that a little bit of earth and water would produce such interesting smells for all of us?!

Every morning we greet the plants, water them, and sometimes we sing to them to help them grow. Our crocus, and tulip blooms have all petered out. We also enjoyed the tall purple irises. Mama said they were called dragons beard variety of irises. I have no idea what all of that means. What is a dragon anyhow? Have you ever seen a dragon?

Oh wait! Remember that song, “Puff the Magic Dragon?” You know the one…we often listen it before the nap time for IRB. Well, there’s a dragon in that one, but it’s a green dragon and the irises are purple…there’s no beard on Puff either. I’m so perplexed. Maybe a nap will help me solidify my thoughts. I’ll go do just that, nap on!

All curled up, literally.

Four Hundred and Three Paws

Dear Little Brothers,

This weekend we did a lot of yard and outside work. I supported the team effort whenever there was inside passing and through the front window. LDB you helped daddy take out the seven large prickle bushes by the front walk way. You discovered interesting cocoon’s for moths. You also helped daddy move them to the wetland so that they would be safe and open up in the grass lands by the water. You were over joyed to discover big rocks underneath the bushes and you got to launch those into the water of our wetland too. You and daddy went on an adventure to a grocery store and got a pot of plants with flowers for mama and a googly eyed card. This card stared at me while I slept last night, but I know that the hedgehog on the card is pretend and not real so, I was ok. I gave mama extra love lean in’s and kisses to say I love you to her directly, in my way.

Four Hundred and Two Paws

Dear Pack Humans,

I am writing to you at bedtime. We had quite the eventful evening of play, romping, and rough housing around outside. I was so tuckered out that I quite literally couldn’t move once you were both in bed. My body was so tired that I nuzzled into your blanket on the couch LDB and didn’t move when mama came to take me out and do my food routine. She cuddled with me, gave me some good pet pets and then I begrudgingly slid off of the couch.

Outside we got some evening smells together before the drops of rain returned. I also had quite the encounter with a wild squirrel. I was standing so very still on the rock path in the yard that the squirrel didn’t see me! It was chattering away to itself and raced across the fence highway. I moved a bit when it was four feet away from me and it startled the squirrel. It flung it’s body from the fence into the cherry tree and up the spruce tree. Then it whipped itself around and lectured me from it’s safe vertical height. This squirrel had so much to say that mama was drawn away from writing her book post and looked up into the trees. She and the squirrel met eyes and there was something in that moment that made mama concerned. She called me over to her, but I pointed to the squirrel trying to tell her that we were indeed having a conversation, albeit, I was silent, but the rodent had much to say! Mama called me over again, but this time she sounded pretty serious so I went to her and we hopped inside. I love my solo time with mama. I mostly like to lean into her and give her side cuddle hugs. That’s my favorite thing to do, but if that’s not an option I seek out a spot to guard with and stand by in case I’m needed.

“Whose playing dress up?”

Four Hundred and One Paw

Dear Daddy,

Hi there pal. Did you know that you’re my favorite human to cuddle with? I absolutely love to climb into your lap and give you a hug. I can rest my chin on your shoulder and ease into a full body lean. You provide ample support for my strength and I truly love it. Thanks for the cuddle the other night. I know that you’re carrying a lot of work and pressure throughout the day so I could feel that we both just needed a Kimmy hug!

I like watching you ride on your bicycle. I much prefer seeing you return home on it, than riding away, but that goes without saying. I always want our pack to be complete and being altogether means that for me. It’s strange not having you here every day, every hour, after a year of so much time in our home. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy mama and my baby brothers, but I like things best with daddy too. Thanks for walking me on the leash even when I pull really hard because of my worries or smells. I love you dad!

“I’m watching my couch bed be made mama!”

Four Hundred Paws

Dear World,

Hello. My name is Kimmy and I’m the pup who runs this here blog. Did you know that my momma Rachel Ann works hard to take care of me and my two human brothers? She and I have been a team since the day that she and daddy adopted me. I’ll never forget how she laid on the couch with me after I survived the parvo and lung cough at the veterinarians. We laid on the couch all night long until it was morning. I basically pushed momma off of the couch with my strong paws and tiny, but long legs. Not too much has changed since then.

Momma grew two tiny humans in her belly and now they hang out in the house with me. We share the carpet, the blankets, and the toys, for the most part. I like these moments when we share, but I also like to have my time alone. A dog needs to contemplate and relax by themselves just like you mere humans. Life’s challenging for all of us and we need to take some time to reflect. Speaking of which, I shall go and relax now!

Dress up with a hat gone wrong for me, or right for both of us.

Three Hundred Ninety Nine Paws

Dear Brothers,

(Flashback posts for the win….)

Today it was Star Wars day, or something like that. Littlest brother, you wore a star wars outfit for a while, but then you blech-ed out on it and so you changed into your fourth outfit of the day. Wait a minute, that’s actually pretty funny because it was the fourth of May and you wore four outfits. I’m cracking myself up, what can I say? I have picked up on mama’s sense of humor and now here I am writing her ridiculous mom humored sayings. But, I guess that is, “paw for the course,” because we share this blog now don’t we mama? What did you think of the usage of the word paw in that sentence? Pretty ingenious, eh? Life’s what you make of it so, I’m making due and doing my best by putting one paw in front of the other.

Shadow views while I wait patiently for the babies.

Three Hundred and Ninety Eight Paws

Dear Brothers,

Golly it feels like a season’s change now! We had the glorious opportunity of receiving sunshine after sunshine day! We planted all kinds of green things in our other garden box and there’s more standing trees on the side of the house. Although, those smell like they might have something to eat on them soon which is rather exciting, if you ask me, perhaps I’ll be able to nibble little bits off of them? Although we all know what my favorite part of this season is, the sun.

I love getting snuffles of smells in the morning air. I walk out into the lawn, or out on the patio and I just stand and catch scent currents with my nose. You have to stand very still and relax your body, but stay alert to what is happening around you. Our neighborhood squirrels have been busy collecting nuts and hiding them in our yard. Mama found some in the new raspberry bushes we planted, and there was a whole stash in the fence on the side of the sand box. That explains why so many squirrels were romping up and down the fence vertically from the sandbox. Those little stinkers are just in and out and all about constantly running. Sometimes I get close to catching one, but they’re pretty elusive and they move quick enough that I’m a second behind them each day. One day it might happen, I’ll catch up to one. Until then, I’ll keep a close eye on them.

Sleepy in the sunshine today.

Three Hundred and Ninety Seven Paws

Dear Brothers,

Season’s change is upon us, and I can feel it in my paws. On our family walks it has been warm and sunny with a slight breeze that carries with it some delightful smells. Our neighborhood squirrel friends are romping around collecting the last of their nuts and busying themselves with their squirrel munchkins. I do have a thing or two to say about our squirrel friends. Whenever they are gallivanting about our garden, and I happen to be outside too, I race after them. I am more swift than you might think I am. I can provide a mean leap whenever I need to, and my balance is unmatched when cornering around a plant box. It takes skill to challenge the squirrel crew and I am here to rise to the challenge. I am always amused when they slip under the fence or race up a beam of wood more rapidly than they would on their own. That means, my challenge has been accepted, and perhaps this time they’ll stay out of my vegetables. A dog can dream, right?

Rollin’ with my homie.

Three Hundred and Ninety Six Paws

Dear Brothers,

Today was quite an exciting morning. I got to visit with the cousin. Not just a cousin, but the cousin named Kate. I love her. I love her sister too, the Anna. I love their momma too, the Allison, and their daddy too, the Tom. They’re like my second family, lil dudes! Did you know that?

I lived with them when you were coming into the world LDB. Then Gramma and Auntie Allison stayed with us LDB while IRB came into the world. We’re all a great big family, and so, it is imperative that I get to visit too, whenever someone from the big family comes to our little family. We love to spend time and talk with them. Our big cousin lets me sniff her, and lean into her, and give her kisses. I like that. She knows that I’m silly and just want loves, so I feel happiest when they all visit, but I’ll take one human at a time too. Also, she smells like my bff Daisy-doodle dog, and so I can’t help but love to be ever so near to her, even if it means I almost knock her over and slobber all over her pants. I left my doggy mark on her, what can I say, I’m helpful like that.
