Three Hundred and Sixty Three Paws

Dear Brothers,

Would you both like to be in on a little secret that I know? Well, you’re going to be whether you want to or not, haha. Or in the words of our mama, “LOL,” which means laugh out loud! It’s snowing outside. I think you may have seen it a bit IRB, but LDB, you’re snoozing up a storm in your bedroom. It looks more like fat gloppy rain drops and bits of snow here and there. It’s interesting how it falls over and over, almost mesmerizing to me in a way.

Grammie Kathy was saying that it was snowing at the coast and then it started snowing here. Haha! She must have sent some clouds our way. Hopefully we get some, “stick to the ground snow,” and then you could play in it LDB! I know you have been waiting and waiting and WAITING for the snow this winter. In fact, I remember you telling mama that that was indeed one of the things you were looking forward to this winter time season. We were learning all about seasons when things shifted from summer to fall and then fall to winter here in our wet land zone of Oregon. I like to learn about all of the names, and facts, and information that you read and discuss with mama and daddy. We like to learn in this house, that’s for sure! I love you both so very much.

Kimmy

Three Hundred and Sixty Two Paws

Dear Brothers,

Hello there fellow siblings of the furless variety. We meet in dream land. The best thing about our dreamland view is this: it’s always sunny in dreamland. Mama says that the perk of a warm climate is that it’s sunny, I agree. I wish it were warm and balmy every day. I fancy myself being a beach dog one day, somewhere on a tropical island, or even a southern region beach, just somewhere that is warm and cozy in the open air.

No offense is meant to this majestic region of the Pacific Northwest, but I have to say, it’s a bit dreary this time of the year. Perhaps mama will roll out the pink, purple, and reds soon for the holiday of love. I like the warm tones. We give hugs and kisses all year round here, but holidays can be fun too. Speaking of hugs and kisses. The sun just peaked out from behind a cloud. I think it’s proving to us that it too can shine without us asking it to do so. There it is, in all it’s glory beaming down upon our back yard, it’s enough to rise me from our slumber, buuuuut, perhaps not. I do love to dream, especially when you both meet me there. I love you brothers!

Three Hundred and Sixty One Paws

Dear Mama,

Hi there! Did I surprise you? I think I did! I bet you thought this letter would be for one of my brothers, ha, tricked you! Clever Kimmy here, reporting for blog duty. Sometimes I just want to talk to you mama. It was just you and I the first few days of my nurtured life, so I feel it is my duty to check in with you every now and then. Mama’s need a little love and reassuring presence every now and then now don’t they? You know what? I just realized something, it’s you, me and the boys during the week days when daddy is singing in his office and teaching all of the music/life/content that teachers do.

You and I work hard at keeping everyone alive, semi-complain-less, and fed. Owen the fish and I have made a pact to keep the noise level to a minimum because the other two human brothers have it all covered pretty loudly. Now, I do realize that Owen can get pretty rowdy, but you know beta fish, they’re always on the prowl, ha, ha, haaaaa. That was a good one huh? Where’s the drum set when you need it?! I love to make a good joke! I love you mama, that’s what I’m here to say. I love it when you pet my ears really gently, and when you clean my paws with warm water when I step in something gross. I love it when you cuddle with me on the couch, and when I can lick your toes to let you know I’m there. I love you human mama.

Three Hundred and Sixty Paws

Dear Tiniest of tiny humans,

Hello there. Did you know that one thing we have in common little one is that, we’re both always at eye level! Your brother used to be at eye level with me. He’s not any more. Suddenly, one day he woke up and seems to be much, much taller now. I don’t know how that happened. He grew simply, over night! The fun thing about him being so much taller now is that he isn’t at tail height any longer. That can be quite a challenging height with a tall graceful lab plott-hound doggy like myself! Why is that, you might be asking yourself?

Well I will tell you! I have the unique of ability of gliding through the air and pouncing ever so gently down with a solid plop whenever toys are in my midst, mud is under my paws, or boards are laid for me to jump over. I just love a good leap to a wag moment. Don’t you? Hmm. Well, the first time LDB collided with my tail and hindquarters was in the family room. He leapt across the floor and flopped big time on his belly. All the humans rushed over to him, but no one checked on me! What is up with that business? If I recall correctly, you seemed to be completely content on the floor, except for the minimal whining, but that is to be expected after a fall. I shuffled over and sniffed for an injury and gave you kiss apologies for any tail faults. Sometimes my tail has a mind of it’s own, what can I say? So, IRB you might be wondering what all of this information is for? Well, I shall tell you, it is to fore warn you of the challenge that being my best friend can bring. Watch out for tails, and if a tail spin should happen, just know this: I never mean any harm.

Three Hundred and Fifty Nine Paws

Dear Little Ones,

Greetings from this weekend vibe to you. Today, I fear to report that it’s a dreary one.  The sun was shining and all felt hopeful for spring yesterday morning. The sun began to set, and so did the my hopes, I know, melodramatic I am aware. There wouldn’t be a fantastic blog if there wasn’t a bit of drama though now would there? You were asking the most insightful questions yesterday LDB. You kept peppering mama with them one after another. Some of them included: Why do kids make so much noise? Why does Kimmy make that sound? Why are dogs making noise? Why do cats meow? How come my dog does that?

See what I mean? I didn’t know that you could ask so many questions in a row! I bet it felt pretty stellar to get them all out at once! I have a lot of questions to ask too, but it is rather challenging to do so with my dog language because I do not have anyone that can translate for me. Wait a minute, could you translate for me Baby I? I know that you communicate similarly to me. You have a lot of guttural sounds, B-b-b sounds, and m-m-m’s and some D-d-d.  If I’m being completely honest the human I should ask is mama. I mean, she is writing this here blog for us isn’t she? Ahhh, well perhaps at a later date I’ll inquire. For now I am going to enjoy my snooze land and the peace and quiet of my breathing. The rising and falling of my chest, and the soft patter of my paws moving, lulling me to sleeeeeeeep, off I go! Zzzzz.

Sunshine days, paws and toes out.

Three Hundred and Fifty Eight Paws

Dear Brothers,

Hello! Kimmy here reporting for blog duty. You are both napping, and so am I, if I’m being completely honest. Mama is always showing up and finishing these writings when I am trying to snooze. I get so pooped after our busy morning of play, puzzles, baking, whining, walking, playing, nursing, stopping, petting, you name it with an ‘ing, and it happens. I’m sure you get the picture. I had a lot happening this morning so, here we are now. Mama took a photo of me for yesterday’s writings. My ears were sticking straight out. Well actually, one was sticking up into the air and the other one was sticking out to the side. I’m not sure how I managed all of that, but sometimes things just come naturally for me. I’m just plain talented when it comes to the ear department of things.

LDB, you have the funniest little rituals that you do whenever you’re playing in the front yard. You love to take out your toys one by one. Then you play with them and line them up on the front walkway, grass, or wetland grounds. I’m not quite sure what it all means, but you do it, none the less. You’ve also been placing race cars around the house the last couple of days! You put one on the counter by the mask basket, one on top of your kitchen, and one in the couch where I like to sleep. What’s up with all of this huh? I love and appreciate your creativeness, but you’re quite interesting sir. No race cars underneath my derriere spot. I love ya lil’ brother.

Three Hundred and Fifty Seven Paws

Dear Brothers,

Today was a big day for the place we call home. Did you know that we live in a town, in a city, in a state, which is invariably inside of a big country? Well, we do and today we saw the inauguration of the next humans who make big decisions based on the people’s voices. Mama and daddy played the tv thing so that we could see the big change that was taking place. I was excited because they were excited and had happy vibes flowing. I liked the music and the voices of the people. That’s something pretty important that I have gathered from mama, “The voice and the will of the people,” she’s talked about that before. I know that I have a will that is rather strong, and so do both of you. So I know that it means something about what is important to humans. I loved when you were super jazzed about it LDB and running around announcing the flags and the people. That was excitement at it’s best. Cheers for a new era of what we hope will ignite all paws and not claws.

All curled up like a puppy.

Three Hundred and Fifty Six Paws

Dear Brothers,

Hello, calling all brothers in this house!!! “Ahhhhem, attention please, report for brother duty to listen up!” Alright. Now that I have your attention I would like to clarify something, I am and always will be your big sister dog Kimmy, but I will not be fought over when it comes to bed time duties. I trade off whose room I visit, and that, is that! I try to do my best to serve the needs of both of you.

However, sometimes a doggy needs a little bit of peace and quiet so I reserve the right to choose whose room I visit for that very reason. And, if I choose to hide underneath the yoga ball and hang out with spirit Bella cat, so be it! That goes for you too mama! You should not call me out when I’m hiding, I’m working hard to channel Bella and I must not be disturbed. Goodness gracious. Sometimes working with human beings can be super taxing. I love you all dearly, but every now and then, I need some q.t. all by myself. With that being said, I’m going to go take a rest.

zzz,

Kimmy

Cozy pals.

Three Hundred and Fifty Five Paws

Dear Tiny Baby Brother,

Greetings IRB! You’ve grown so much lil dude! I’m so proud of you. Correction, we are all so proud of you sweet baby! I just love how you roll onto your side to give me bedtime pet-pets. You always look for me on the couch, or on the stairs. You know my spots now lil bro! The other day you rolled on your mat to look for me and shouted out loud, “AaaaahhhhhhiiiI!” I know that’s your word for Kimmy because you say it many times throughout the day. Thanks for including me in your thoughts. I appreciate it.

However I would like to clear up the fact of the matter that we must practice open handed pets, especially when near my ears. Mama has been practicing how to give kind pets with you a ton, she says the words, “Soft, gentle pet’s IRB, nice open hand,” so I know that you’re getting the reinforcement that you need. So I’ll try and remind you of that the next time you pet my head baby brother. I love you! Thanks for rolling around on the floor with me.

Flower babes.

Three Hundred and Fifty Four Paws

Dear Brothers,

Today, I am told, is a big day for me. I turned five years old today! Do you know what that means? I go to kindergarten soon! Yup, that’s right, I’ll be enrolling in school any day now. I’ve been waiting and waiting for this day for quite some time. I’m just wondering one thing…can I take a nap whenever I want to, in kindergarten class? What do you say mama? No?! What do you mean no?! I love to take my naps though. My naps are, my thing! My naps are… essential! Oh golly, maybe I should really think on this school thing for a while. I’m just not sure if I’m meant to start school right now…maybe I could wait a while and start when you go to school LDB?

What do you think of that idea? I could be like Clifford the big red dog, and I could be your buddy and accompany you to school. Wouldn’t that be fun? We could go down giant slides, and I could watch you on the big kid swings, and we could eat snack together! It’d be so much fun! I like that idea a lot better. Well, now that I have that all decided. I think I shall go have a nap on the couch. I love you two! Thanks for the birthday accordion played song this morning and all of the extra hugs and kisses. I really appreciated being told how special I am, oh and all the peanut butter treats. I love our pack.

Xo,

Kimmy

PS The banana baby fingers were delicious IRB!
