Three Hundred and Eighty Five Paws

Dear Kimmy,

Hi there. It’s me, LDB, I’m writing to let you know that I’m ok. I had a little bit of a hard time with the shoe-flies in the back yard, and my worries about them, but I’m ok now. I just have some pretty big feeling sometimes. Those flies, they bother me, and when you’re not outside to eat them or sniff at them, then I get all concerned that they’re going to fly at me. Mama says to sing that song about shoo flies, but I just go straight to screaming about the bugs I’m unsure about.

Mama takes my hand and tells me to say things like, “I can do it, wave it away; or deep breath, let it out, let’s take care of it together!” Sometimes I’m not sure about a lot of things in life, and then at other times, I’m super certain about my place in life and I don’t feel worried about things outside and I just play. Feelings come and feelings go, that’s what we say at home, right Kimmy dog? Thanks for coming to check on me at the window and asking mama to come out and give me sniffs. I love you buddy dog.

Leo

Three Hundred and Eighty Four Paws

Dear Kimmy dog sister,

Hi! It’s me, the babyyyyyy, IRB! As of late we have had a lot of super great cuddles together! I’m growing now so I can sit up next to you super well. I even grab your body for balance and pull myself to you more. I love to do that. I grab your hair and pull sometimes, but I try not to pull your hair too much. One of my favorite parts of your awesome dog body are your ears! They’re super cool Kimmy! How come my ears aren’t like yours? I wish they were, I’d shake them, and grab them, and play with them all of the time! You’re so lucky to be a doggy! Sometimes I pretend to be a doggy too, but brother tells me that I’m a human, I don’t know what that means. I like doggies though, I especially like you. Thanks for the kisses when I was crying. They made me feel really loved.

“Hi mom, thanks for rescuing me from the vet!”

Three Hundred and Eighty Three Paws

Dear Kimmy,

Hi! HI KIMMY! Can you hear me Kimmy? It’s LDB, I’m shouting because I think you’re sleeping and you might need me to talk extra loudly so that you can hear me in dream land. I’m writing this letter to tell you that, well, actually to tell you a few things! Here goes:

  1. I love you!
  2. You’re my best best friend Kimmy dog!
  3. Thanks for playing chase with me, I love to do that with you.
  4. Just so you know, don’t worry much about the garbage trucks, they’re not going to bother you Kimmy, not while I’m around.
  5. When we play trucks inside, I try to be careful and not get in your way, but sometimes we have to share space and they bonk or gonk, as I like to say and they just move around like crazy on the carpet.
  6. What do you want to do this summer?
  7. Do you want to go to the beach Kimmy, do you?
  8. Do you like it when I hug you? Daddy said that when you lay your head over my shoulder that you’re hugging me, I like that feeling, being hugged by you.
  9. Mommy and daddy really love you a lot, they take really good care of you Kimmy doggy.
  10. I want to go to the beach this summer and play with you.

Three Hundred Eighty Two Paws

Dear Brothers,

Top of the morning to ‘ya! I heard daddy say that once, and I’ve been holding onto that phrase for a while now. You gotta hold your key phrases or one liners close to your heart and toss them out when the spirit moves you. The spirit moved me, speaking of moving… mama and daddy came downstairs to my lair a bit early. I’m sleeping on the couch and have decided that if I do not move, the morning will not come. I’m not ready for the daily rituals and routines so I shall lay here and rest, perhaps I’ll drift off to dreamland and meet both of you again. I love resting and stretching my legs out onto this couch bed. There are certain positions I can curl up or stretch into on the couch and the cushions align, just so, with my needs. Ha! Oh! Did you hear that? That’s a train whistling off in the distance. I wonder if it is windy outside, because the sound is traveling quite far and loudly? I always find it odd when new sounds and smell currents visit us. Alas, I think I must move, mama is watching me and I can feel her gaze upon my head. Quick, let’s run off to dreamland before I have to get up!

Baby Bro loves me, and I love him so.

Three Hundred and Eighty One Paws

Dear Kimmy,

Hiiiii big doggy sister! I love you!! Mama said I could write a letter to you, so this is it! It’s a letter. Yay! No wait, I think I might want to tell you some more…let me see. Oh! I know, here’s a little story to share. Remember when I was eating mashed banana today? That was fun, I’m not sure why you approached me, but you did, and then you were licking my fingers. Haha, I think we shared a special moment with bonding through food. Mommy said that one time when I first started eating the foods. So now I know that we’re best friends and now best friends who share food together, yay us!

Love you,

Tiny bro IRB

Three Hundred and Eighty One Paws

Dear Doggy Pal,

Hello! Guess what bff? It’s almost my bir-sa-day. I think that’s how you say it. Or sometimes it sounds like birthday? Which one is it Kim-Kimmy? I like to make up names for you my doggy friend. You know the books we read about the big red dog named, Clifford? You’re like my Clifford, but instead, you are my Kimmy. You’re my big black Kimmy doggy. I know that you are part labrador and part plot hound dog. Mama and daddy say that that’s why you sniff the ground so much, because you’re on a scent trail for something important! I understand that completely. I get so excited about being outside that I forget to listen, look, or watch sometimes. Mommy and daddy get upse-p if I don’t look where I’m going and I crash into something like a pole or a tree, on my bike. We’re just busy dog and kiddo people right Kimmy? Well, I gots-ta go now doggy. Have a good sleep.

Three Hundred and Eighty Paws

Dear Little Humans of mine,

Hello dear ones! “Love, love changes everything,” I’m not sure what the rest of the human words are, but those ones stuck out the most to me. I’m lying on the bed with the mama. She’s typing and we’re relaxing together. We had a sunny-tastic morning time of play, romping around, yelling at shoo-flies, playing, screaming in the house, crying, playing, screaming some more, having a tantrum, and ending it with me helping you go back upstairs and starting the nap time. I’m the ultimate healer. I walked in between you and mama sitting on the floor working through your feelings. Golly, sometimes those feelings are so super big that you’re not sure what to do with them now are you LDB? Just know that, like what mama and daddy tell you, we’re right here with you. I’m always willing to give you a puppy dog hug. I hear that they’re super soothing. And, like I began this letter, remember that love, love conquers all, and it changes everything. See what I did there? I remembered some more of your human words.

My cute profile, thanks momma.

Three Hundred and Seventy Nine Paws

Dear Brothers,

Greetings, mid week, it’s a special day! Do you know what day of the week it is? It’s giant truck day! This is the day of the garbage trucks, all morning long! There will be four of them arriving quite soon. You’ve been asking what day it is for a while now LDB. Your curiosity about routines and weekly names has seen an uptick as of late. You love to count and sing the ABC song and many more songs actually. Sometimes you sing to me, or your brother, we’re the lucky recipients of your creativity. I usually receive random songs about what a great doggy friend I am. I appreciate the flattery, really, I do. It makes up for when you chase me and try to startle me, you lil’ stinker. I do have some news for you though LDB, I am still triple your weight, and double your length, so I’ve got that going for me. My nose is still wet and cold and I know how to use it. So, watch your usage of that mini-garbage truck will ya?

Kimmy

Quick check in with my buddy.

Three Hundred and Seventy Eight Paws

Dear Brothers,

Sleepy baby bears. Goodness it’s one of those days when time just flies by. We had some fun in the bits of sunshine of the morning LDB. You were quite busy with the little blue car, the big yellow and red car, and all of your, “out front of the house toys,” and games with mama. I held down the fort with IRB while he napped. Tiny baby bear woke super duper early and then fell back asleep. I woke up, of course being the nurse dog that I am, and so then mama and daddy got up and my day of work began.

Right now I am curled up backwards on your couch spot LDB, nuzzling into your pillow case. Mama is typing for me and munching on those dark chocolate chips. You like those chips a lot. I hear about them every time y’all do the baking business. I’m not allowed to eat the chips though because I guess doggies aren’t supposed to eat chocolate.

Why is that? I mean, I heard that it grows on a plant so, I eat plants sometimes, what could be the harm in tasting them? I trust mama and daddy though, so if you drop some, I don’t eat them. I just point them out with my nose. I’m really good at pointing to things with my nose, except of course, if it involves dropped baby or toddler food, then I gobble it right away! Nom, nom, nom, just like that! I’m kind of your Cookie Monster, from that street called, Sesame! Anyway, enough about random monster friends. I love you!

Thoughtful doggy pose.

Three Hundred and Seventy Six Paws

Dear Brothers,

Guess what? The sun is shining again! We went on a romp-tastic family walk in it. I was so proud to be out in the sun shine with both of you, that I did what mama calls a little bit of a, “Strut,” in my walk. It’s a bit of a hop, skip, and tail wag from side to side. I have perfected it a bit each year. I started this special walk when you were born LDB. I found myself walking so proudly with my new pup that I couldn’t help but walk super gallantly.

One time in my young life I saw, lipizzaner stallions, those are horses, and they walked so majestically that I couldn’t help myself, I may have adopted some of their magnificent traits. I did indeed. So, if you ever see a Kimmy dog walking proudly, down the road, you know it is I, Kimmy the brave and gallant of them all aka, your best friend.
