Four Hundred and Thirty Five Paws

Dear Kimmy,

Hi, it’s me, baby brother! Guess what puppy dog? I love to see you, that’s what! You bring a smile to my face each and every day. I feel so lucky to have you as my big sister. You’re always watching out for us, thanks for that Kimmy-Kim! I try to get your attention now by crawling at turbo speed for you and to check out your food and water dishes as well. I’m always curious about the slurping business you do, especially after our morning walks. I think it’s super funny when you pant with your tongue sticking out. I love that actually, haha, I try to do it too, but then you often walk away when I’m sharing the experience. You’re interested in being near, until I get a little too close. I understand that, sometimes I don’t want other people in my space either. I take to yelling or talking really loud if someone doesn’t understand that. Well, I think I should let you go and enjoy your nap time!

Kimmy

Four Hundred and Thirty Four Paws

Dear Little Ones,

Greetings! It is I, Kimmy doggy. I have some news for you: we had a great sunshine filled walk this morning. I could feel the heat beginning to rise at the end of our walk. You see, my paws absorb the heat that is soaked up from the sun. I can feel the heat on my paws and my toes. I wagged my tail a lot when daddy met us on our walk.

I enjoyed seeing him at the end of the street and watching you race to meet him LDB. You’re so steady and strong on your bicycle now. Your confidence can astound me, especially when you move back and forth on your bike and I am unaware of the suddenness that will bring you back to where I am walking. IRB, you’re a pretty fun walker too little one. I love how excited you get and how you show it. You can kick your legs up high, chew on your feet, and talk on and on about what you see on our walk. You’re quite a conversationalist, as all of the humans are in our home. I have found my voice and I add a thing or two every now and then. Oh! Guess what?! Mama just saw a hummingbird.

I’m running in my sleep; I’m running to see the hummingbird too! Oops, just missed it! Maybe next time I’ll catch up and tell it hello!

Four Hundred and Thirty Three Paws

Dear Little Dudes,

Greetings! We are slumbering soundly in the midst of our blankets. I just love when it is cool, cozy, and I feel calm. We had quite the morning romp on our walk bike ride and later in the backyard. The sun is hidden behind a giant cloud layer and I am missing the warmth.  I like to immerse myself in a season and bask in the sunshine whenever possible, I think today will be a sunshine in my dreams sort of a day though. What better time to do so than, right now?! I made myself chuckle a bit when I said that aloud. Ha! Off to dream land I go!

On the move, in action, shots from pre-rainy season.

Four Hundred and Thirty Two Paws

Dear Brothers,

Hi there little dudes. Y’all are so cute when you sleep! I must say so because I see how sweet you are when you’re snoozing on those little monitors that the parents carry around. Sometimes I try to sneak into your rooms to sleep near you, but most days I hop up onto my bed post in the parent’s bedroom. I always wake up feeling much betters after I have had some sleeps. It helps me plan out where I will nap later on in the day.

Ha! Mama laughed aloud as she wrote that for me. She thinks it’s hilarious that I nap so much, but she understands the need for sleep too. She would take more naps too, especially when running a solo ship, but that’s not always a possibility. I mean, I am present and participating in the shenanigans when we’re flying without the daddy, but I’m not always sure how to help out. Sometimes I just walk right in front of her to make sure that I’m making my presence known. That’s an essential part of being a dog friend. I.E. I must always be in the room or within an eye lid’s open view of my humans. Speaking of which, I must drift off to dream land and join you both in playing, let’s meet at the red slide brothers!

Sweet moments with one of my tiny humans.

Four Hundred and Thirty One Paws

Dear Brothers,

(I have another blast from the past summer memory as the weather becomes more dreary…)

Welcome to the dog days of summer! This is our second summer season together. Who knew that we would be having so much fun together?! I love watching you both explore outside. I like to keep myself at a safe distance in order to know that I will not be in the way of a toy or a moving object because I have learned that it’s never a good situation for Kimmy and a truck to collide. As of late I have been enjoying the mat and towels mama lays out on the ground for us to sit on. I like to lie down close enough, but far enough away from the trucks, as I was mentioning. But, here’s the kicker, these wheeled objects move! They move from one spot to another, so I have to constantly keep myself aware of what is happening around me.

I basically sleep with “one eye open,” because that’s part of my doggy life these days. We watch the clouds roll by, and we also watch for those dragonflies that come in on high air currents and land near the fence to sun themselves. I always know when a dragonfly is near because I can hear the soft buzzing sound that they make. Mama said once that a dragonfly is a prehistoric creature! So, I think it means they are basically flying dinosaurs! How cool is that bro’s?! Alright, you’re both taking a snooze together right now so that means, I must nap as well. See you in dream land,

Four Hundred and Thirty Paws

(Older post/memory post)

Dear Brothers,

Today was my adopt-a-versary day. Do you know what that means? In simpler terms it is the day that I was adopted into our family. Some animal friends call it a, “gotcha’ day,” and I like that phrase too. Momma wrote me a special letter and gave me a bit of extra TLC. I’m partial to the TLC bit because being a creature of physical tangibility, I love to receive all of the pets I can get. One of my favorite things, as of late, is sprawling on the couch and mama sitting with me in the wee hours of the morning. I just lay there and listen to her read. She reads a lot in her head, but I can read her emotions, so I get the gist of what the story is about. For instance, right now, I am telepathically sending my thoughts to mama to write down for me. A friend of hers asked if she considered herself a ghost writer. I think she is in a way, because she writes for me, she’s my paw-scribe. I’m multi-tasking right now by sending these words to mama and also simultaneously sleep dreaming and twitching my brows as I think about my dream. Alrighty, back to dream land. I must help IRB have his dream scape narrated.

Contemplative paws on a dreary Monday.

Four Hundred and Twenty Nine Paws

Dear Kimmy (this is a flashback letter story),

Hi big sister doggy! Did you know that yesterday was the hottest recorded day in Oregon? It was 115 degrees in one day! Mama and I went to the library and a surprise ice cream parlor. I’ve gone and gotten ice cream at the beach with momma and daddy before, but not in our town! I was super excited and I hopped into the shop. I thought my ice cream was super delicious. Some of it dripped down my chin and onto my car seat and buckles. It was yummy, sweet, and sticky. We brought some ice cream to our mail delivery friend too. Mr. SJ looked like he was feeling extremely warm and we were concerned that he would feel ok so we found his truck and offered him some cool temp treats too. That made my heart feel happy to see him wave to me. You slept on the cool leather couch for the later afternoon and then on the bed underneath a fan and air conditioning. Momma says you have a pretty good life and I must agree.

Dinosaurs in our midst.

Four Hundred and Twenty Eight Paws

Dear Brothers,

What do you get when it reads 100 plus degrees over four days in our city?

I’m waiting for it… well, what do you think?

A hot dog. Did you get it? Ha! Well, we don’t eat hot dogs in this family anyways! We eat veggie dogs…and that’s a good thing. Hehehe, hot dog. I’m picking up on all of this humor business now aren’t I?

“I see you, hiding place peek-a-boo’s!”

Four Hundred and Twenty Seven Paws

Dear Brothers,

Hello there humans. I was just reflecting with my paws. They reminded me of something, we survived the hottest day ever recorded in Oregon. How hot was it, you might be wondering? Well it was so hot that the parents hung a giant quilt up over the back windows, closed all the blinds, and we went on a super duper early doggy walk for me. It got to be 115 degrees, is that craziness or what?

It was so hot that I would go outside and just stand there trying to find some smells and bird chirps, but then I wanted to go right back inside, which of course, the humans accommodated. I went into hibernation mode and took all the same naps that you both do daily. I had a great time snoozing on mama and daddy’s bed underneath the ceiling fan. I was quite cool and comfortable. We also had another incredibly tiny human visiting with their auntie and uncle. You both loved playing with her. I wagged my tail and said hello from afar. Mama was a little concerned that this babe wouldn’t know what to do with my ninety pounds of fantastic fun. Ha! So I napped, enjoyed company, and the coolness inside our home the whole weekend. I’m glad that we all survived and are on the other side of wild heat. I’m all for sunshine little dudes, but not that much sunshine if you know what I mean! Now that it’s fall time, my paws tell me that they still prefer some sort of temperature in between the heat and the cold rain.

Sweet tired doggy friend.

Four Hundred and Twenty Six Paws

Dear Brothers,

Hello there human babes. We had a most lovely weekend filled with family time and Auntie Sheli. She’s been my auntie since before you were both born! I am the oldest child in the house, as we all know. Do you remember when she visited us when you were a tiny ‘not crawling’ baby LDB? We had fun with her back then too! You walked a labyrinth with her and Grandma Sara, took a nap, and I guarded you, and all sorts of things! We were pretty busy during our time with Auntie Sheli this weekend.

We made her some beautiful artwork welcome signs with lots of colors and swirls. I was going to help, but there’s something about my paws not having thumbs that makes a difference with the crayons. I supervised the artwork, so that’s how I helped out! Grandma Sara and Grandpa Jim brought her over to our house and we were so excited that we romped around the house over and over again watching out the windows for her arrival. Mama had me rest upstairs during the dinner time so that I didn’t knock over the Grandparents, sometimes I do that by accident. I often become so excited that I just barrel through or around the adults, because I figure that they can hold their own. Little did I know that they also flop their bodies or trip on my strength, like you and baby brother. Ha! I’m still tired from our weekend romps. I must go take a nap now, this was a longer blog for me to dictate!

I’m sleeping and admiring my Auntie Sheli’s beauty. I needed my own couch bed of course…
