Four Hundred and Twenty Five Paws

Dear Brothers,

Guess what? I love you both so much! I love you so much that I’ll lick your tears away when you’re feeling all of the sad feelings coming on. You’re both generally on the floor when the feelings happen so I have really good proximity to help out. Littlest brother you’re getting bigger by the day. You like to share your feelings big time now. I think you’ve learned a lot from your toddler brother though. I’m not one for fits or tantrums. I generally sit down and dig my heels in when I don’t want to do something. For example, when momma and daddy took me to the vet, I just leaned closer into the car’s seat and pretended I didn’t hear them saying time to get out of the car Kimmy. Daddy had to give me a giant hug-lift and hoisted me out of the car. So why am I sharing all of this? Well, I’m just letting you know that it’s always ok to have your feelings, and I’m here to help you through it. Call me your steed, or steadfast sentry, I’ll be here for you.

Xo,

Kimmy

Four Hundred and Twenty Four Paws

Dearest tiny humans,

Here’s a factoid about your doggy here, Kimmy: I like to cuddle, but I don’t like to be jumped on. So, why you might be asking, am I sharing this information? I’m sharing because dear small human-oids of the toddler variety, I am not your jungle gym. When I am tired of being jumped upon, I choose to remove myself from the situation at paw and I slowly get up, shake you off of me, and make my way to a new location. I did this yesterday afternoon because I had the curtain above me, LDB on my back, and IRB at my front and it was more than a doggy can handle y’all. I love you both to bits, but I do need space sometimes too.

Four Hundred and Twenty Three Paws

Dear Brothers,

Happy official start of the day, the sun is barely out, but you’re up! I learn all kinds of fascinating information each day because I listen to the stories momma and daddy read to you two. If I listen carefully, you’re also sharing new facts now too LDB and IRB. IRB teaches me to look up, way up high, and then I can see things that are sitting on top of cabinets, or hanging on the walls. LDB you’re always noticing interesting plants and taking time to smell the roses. Albeit, sometimes we stop close to fifteen times on my walk, but I don’t mind as much as the grown ups say I do. I just like to be a full pack and enjoy the weather together. Life’s more fun when we’re altogether. What do you think about that? I know that IRB is in a stage of life where he likes to be with the whole crew. I understand that fully, and so I shall heretofore be known as, “the herder,” I’m taking on Cassie dog’s traits now. And herd, I shall do, all of you, did you hear that momma? Haha!

Four Hundred and Twenty Two Paws

Dear LDB,

Hi oldest but younger brother. We’ve had a few early mornings together lately. I love your company, don’t get me wrong, but if the birds are not fully awake and chirping, it’s still time to get your sleep on. What do you think about that? I know that mama and daddy would appreciate the continued quiet, as would I. Although, I do enjoy cuddling up on the couch together. That’s one of my favorite morning time activities. Cuddle snoozes and warm toesies. Sometimes it can be so rainy that we all need to curl up and warm our toes together underneath the fuzzy blankets. You seem amenable to this most mornings. I think that you are most appreciative of a warm blanket and Kimmy dog when it is gray and rainy. There’s something about that weather that brings up the feeling or need rather to be close. I like it a lot, so I’ll take all those mornings that I can get. Speaking of which, I think I’ll dive into, “The Hundred Acre Wood,” friends show and enjoy your closeness now.

Four Hundred and Twenty One Paws

Dear Brothers,

Hello! Happy tidings to you both. We had a lovely Kimmy walk yesterday. You were quite busy on your bicycle LDB. You’re really fascinated with how you can lift up the front tire with your handle bars and hold up the wheel. You enjoy sharing this skill with neighbor friends too. I’m not so crazy about the bicycle to begin with, but I know that it brings you happiness. I get worried when objects move past me really quickly. I like to know where all the humans and things are at one time, but alas, I understand that things change, especially with my small humans. Y’all grow and change super rapidly! Speaking of change, IRB, you’ve grown tremendously little one. I love how smiley and busy you are. I am still a favorite family member to visit on the floor. And, let’s be honest, I’m the only other one that’s one hundred percent on the floor with you, at all times. Ha! So there’s a Kimmy bonus for you!  I’m going to go check in on what dad is doing. He’s up with the sunshine and I today.

Curious noses inquire.

Four Hundred and Twenty Paws

Dear Brothers,

Yesterday we went on an afternoon walk together as a family. We ventured to the neighbors house that have other tiny humans living in it. They were outside playing and you joined them for a little bit, LDB. I watched from the stroller with daddy holding his leash. I would have been more than happy to join in with your game but it didn’t look like you needed me. IRB was quite taken with the decorative tree in their yard. He liked watching the branches and the leaves dance about in the breeze. At one point you came out of their garage rolling a small wagon with toys LDB. You’re really good at finding interesting objects and creating games with them. I used to do something similar as a pup. One time I found socks and I stored them underneath me on my bed.

Four Hundred and Nineteen Paws

Dear LDB,

Hey there! Thanks for your letter brother. Some days I just really need a pick me up and that was the perfect up of picks, I mean pick me up. Where does that figure of speech come from? I’m a bit confused when it comes to all of these funny sayings in the English language. Who knows where anything comes from these days? What I do know is that, I like when people share their ideas, and their food, and most of all their love. Those are the things that truly matter. Wouldn’t you agree? I know that you do.  You talk a lot about kindness and listening to words that other human beings say. I listen to you and I try to be kind with my paws too. Speaking of paws, I think I might go and play with one of my chew toys. The toys help me get out my feelings and relax with a little bit of chewing time.

Quick tongue kiss for mama.

Four Hundred and Eighteen Paws

Dear Kimmy,

Hi best friend of mine. That’s how I like to say hi to you Kimmy dog. You’re my best friend, and I’m yours, we’re pals. We’re also best friends with our little brother too. He’s a little baby though, so he can’t run and play quite yet.

Although, he can scootch around on his bottom, and he moves really fast too. I love when he calls for me and scootches down the hallway to come play with me. You like to trail him to make sure that he’s safe and sound. Sometimes you nose him in the tooshie aka the bottom, but that’s generally when he needs a diaper change. You really look out for both of us Kimmy. Thanks for doing that! You’re the best-est watch dog there ever was. I love you to the moon and back. That’s what mama says to me.

Sleepy nap time eyes.

Four Hundred and Seventeen Paws

Dear Little Brothers,

The benefits of having teacher parents is that we have some time during summer to romp, explore, and play as a family. They’re still working on taking care of all of us, of course, and they still do their odd jobs of music making, performing, creating, tape sending, and all of that business, but, we’re together. I love summer for the obvious reason of it being warm and the sun hugs me more. But, most of all I love being with you both and soaking up the sunshine. This will be our first summer where we can play together. Last summer you were the cutest snuggly baby IRB. Now you’re growing up and ready to play! Do you want to go in a baby pool IRB? You got a special birthday present from your big cousins K and A. I think we should all soak up some water and sun in this new pool. I think there’s a panda bear on it too, which is perfect for your theme of bear outfits and accessories little one. I know LDB is excited for more water play. Love you both so much.

Night time moments.

Four Hundred and Sixteen Paws

Dear Kimmy dog,

LDB here reporting for blog work duty. One of my favorite parts of the morning is when I come downstairs and see you waiting for me on the floor, or one of the couch beds. I love to give you a pet or pat and then cuddle up on the couch. In fact, the other morning you cuddled up with me on the couch waiting for mama who was taking care of IRB and his nap deal. I loved that you curled up next to my toesies. Albeit, you were lying on a cozy blanket bed, but you were near me and I appreciated the closeness.

My other favorite recent moment with you was when we were all playing on the family room floor and you licked my cheek. I got pretty silly excited and started romping around and so did you. Then I got really excited and shrieked super loudly and hopped onto the couch. You raced around in a circle and then played, “Chew on my toys,” for a couple of minutes. You’re so good about going and getting a toy to chew on when you feel the silliness rise up inside of you. I love you buddy and bff.
